Welcome to Tommy's Online Piano Studio

Many students get tired and/or bored in traditional piano lessons. Yet learning to play piano can and should be a joy that also helps the student grow in all respects: as a musician, student, and human being. With my piano lessons this is exactly what you will get: the best piano instruction, as well as personal mentoring to gain skills needed to accomplish your musical goals. This can lead to enormous fulfilment and personal joy, which will benefit you in your whole life!

I am offering you the chance to have a free trial Skype lesson so you can give it a try to see how it works. I would much appreciate your feedback on the idea of online lessons, so if you have any other questions about how online lessons work then please let me know.

Be sure to test your equipment and make sure it is working prior to your first lesson. Our first meeting will be to check sound, discuss lesson procedures, and discuss your individual goals. This meeting is free of charge and will last approximately 30 minutes.

Practice Areas

Primary School Students

Music is one of many activities, and compliments sports, swimming, dancing, etc, to provide a well-rounded array of experiences. A host of studies suggests that young children exposed to music excel in a number of areas. Parents often enrol kids to get them a head start in life.

Secondary School Students

Most students who continue throughout the teen years view music as a defining part of their personal identity. They often play in schools and community ensembles as well.

College Students

These individuals often continue lessons as an enjoyable activity that provides a break from challenging (and less fun) work required for their degree program.

Music Professionals

Lessons facilitate continued growth or the development of new skill sets that help secure additional work and fulfilment.

Amateur adults and successful professionals with a limited performance background

Music is a passion, often a relaxing respite from the “day job.” Some begin from scratch, while others are quite accomplished.

Jazz Students

I specialise in jazz piano as I am a performer with many years experience. However, I can also teach piano and keyboards in blues, funk, soul, and classical styles. Some of my beginner students just like playing simple classical or popular pieces. I am able to teach performance, improvisation, ear training, practicing techniques, and group playing to students of any instrument.

It is my aim to make Skype lessons even better than in-person lessons. I achive this by incorperating various technology. It is very easy to setup and you don’t need much technical knowledge.

  • Record the lessons to rewatch and review during your practice time
  • No need to reschedule due to illness or other conflicts
  • Eliminates travel time and petrol costs
  • Lessons accessible anywhere you have a computer and internet connection
  • Moving away or at college
  • More flexibility in scheduling
  • Refer an out-of-country/county friend or relative

Since starting Piano Lessons in Cheltenham in 2004, I have had the extraordinary privilege of helping many people of all ages and abilities experience the joy of making music.

Jazz theory and improvisation

In addition to being a music teacher I am also a jazz composer, performer, and recording artist. With over 20 years experience playing and performing jazz with some of the UK’s finest jazz musicians, I am able to demonstrate and explain the styles of the jazz masters from various eras. I also have an extensive knowledge of jazz theory and harmony and can show you how to integrate it into your own playing.
