We are back!

We are delighted to let you know that we will be running six more  jazz improvisation masterclasses in April 2020. The sessions will take place live on Zoom and can be accessed for FREE, anywhere in the world.

The sessions will feature brilliant UK jazz pianist, Tommy Scott, on piano, and the session will be hosted and facilitated by international jazz educator, Alex Steele.

Tommy Scott was mentored and championed from a very young age by jazz megastars Joey Calderazzo (Branford Marsalis, Michael Brecker) and Danilo Perez (Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, John Pattitucci). Over time, Tommy has matured into a unique and passionate composer and performer, and he is well known as a collaborator with jazz musicians across the US, UK and Europe. Tommy has performed recently with Jean Toussaint (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers), Dave O’Higgins (Darius Brubeck Quartet), Damon Brown (Steve Grossman, Benny Golson, Dave Liebman), Greg Abate (Ray Charles), Yuri Goloubev (Bob James, Kenny Werner, Ralph Towner), and many others. You can check out Tommy with his new trio, featuring Yuri Goloubev (bass) and Asaf Sirkis (drums) at https://tommyscottmusic.com/jazz-piano-videos

In these masterclasses, Tommy will give us a range of brilliant insights into jazz performance, explaining different approaches to playing and improvising. The ideas presented will be valuable not only to pianists, but to all instrumentalists, as he explores improvisational ideas and techniques. No matter what your level of experience, from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced, there will be a range of brilliant ideas which can be taken away and put into practice immediately.

There will be lots of demonstrations from Tommy at the piano, and also lots of opportunities for questions. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, we’ll guide you through how it works during each of the masterclasses.

Before the masterclass, just download Zoom at https://zoom.us. It’s free and easy to use. We’d recommend you use Zoom on a computer, a laptop, a tablet or iPad. It’s possible to use Zoom on your smart phone, but the bigger the screen is, the better it is for this kind of masterclass.

You can register for any of the sessions below. You can choose either ‘beginners’, ‘intermediate’ or ‘advanced’. We are running each session twice, so that people can take part in different countries around the world. Choose the session which is best for you. Feel free to register for more than one session if you’re hovering somewhere between ‘beginners’ and ‘intermediate’, or between ‘intermediate’ and ‘advanced’. You’ll be more than welcome.

Once you have registered for a masterclass, we will send you information about what we intend to cover during the session. This will give you the opportunity to review what we intend to do before the session starts.

Tommy will take a selection of songs, and explore some great ideas to help you approach improvisation. With Zoom, you’ll get the opportunity to ask Tommy questions during the session. Our hope is that you will get some brand-new insights into ways of deepening your playing, giving you the ability to strengthen your own musical voice, and to enhance your practice and playing. All of this, plus we get to hear Tommy play some great piano!

The session will be introduced, hosted and facilitated by international jazz educator, Alex Steele. Alex is well known for his educational programmes throughout the world, working with individuals, teams, communities and organisations, exploring how improvisational behaviours and mindsets can enhance our abilities to be incredible human beings.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to these sessions. Please register as soon as you can. We can get a maximum of 100 people into any one session on Zoom. Last time, we were over-subscribed, so sign up as soon as you can!

We hope you’re all okay in the current Coronavirus situation. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you!
